In attending a new church it is not unreasonable to wonder what you might expect. These are some of the things which we hope you would find true about us:
- Made to feel like my presence counts
- Allowed to learn & move forward at my own pace
- They haven't forgotten what it is like to be new
- People's safety & dignity were safeguarded
- Didn't need to have my act together to be accepted & included
- Peoples eyes were on Jesus & not my shortcomings
- Every effort was made to ensure that the worship was personal & authentic
- A healing place for leaders
- Strong sense of focus & direction; they are going somewhere
- Community is more than a soundbite - they earnestly desire it
- They are far from perfect and readily admit it
- The leaders are respected yet without being put on pedestals
However, you may desire to make inquires on a deeper level than this. You may be asking, and rightly so, "What makes these people tick?" There are some key questions which we welcome you to ask of us.
- What is the vision this church is working towards?
- What is the mission these people are hotly pursuing?
- What are the Passions that make these people who they are?
- What is the history of this church? (If you would like to know more about our History click here.)
As well as finding the answers to these questions below, we offer a series of small group style meetings called Invitation to Community where you can learn about the church and how you can get connected and get invovled. Click here to find out more.
As a church, we have invested time and effort to understand who God has called us to be. We answered the following questions in this process:
- Where are we going (i.e. our vision)?
- What difference does our existence make?
- Do we have an ideal future that we are working towards?
- What does it mean for ROL to be glorious (i.e. our Mission)?
- How does our conception of Jesus, our context and our calling shape our mission?
- Are we allocating our resources to advance our Mission?
- What things are important to us as we move towards our Vision (i.e. our Priorities)?
- Are we passionate about the same things Jesus was passionate about?
- Are those passions driving all the things we do?
We started with God's desire for a Glorious Church. We quickly realized that to fulfill this vision we must look to Jesus Himself. As the Apostle John wrote "whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked." 1 John 2:6 (ESV). As a people devoted to the person of Jesus Christ, we seek to identify those things that were most central to His earthly life and ministry, and to make those priorities central to us.
This led us to recognize the 5 Passions of Jesus Christ's life: Presence, Teaching, Community, Calling and Missions (see below). From these passions flow our Vision & Mission.
While every true church will want to discover and practice the ministry of Jesus, ROL will do this in ways that are distinctive to us based upon:
- Our conception of Jesus – what is most striking to us about the person of Jesus.
- Our context – where Jesus has placed our church.
- Our calling – the people whom Jesus has uniquely called and equipped us to reach.
ROL's Vision: Pursuing God's Dream – A Glorious Church
Mission Statement: We at ROL exist to welcome God's Great Presence, to teach His Glorious Gospel, to love one another with His love, to train first-rate leaders, and to see a harvest of souls locally & globally, through all of the above.
