We live in a fallen world. And because of this, we as believers in Christ, more and more find ourselves being drawn to prayer, because we realize more and more that we are indeed in need of a Savior to come and help us daily to see His kingdom, His will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Tithing Time
Personal devotion time has often been a struggle for me. Somehow in my head I could always find other things to do with my time in the morning that felt more urgent, like finishing up a homework assignment, or checking my facebook, or especially, sleeping. The few times in my life when I felt like I had the time to spare, the times consisted almost solely of reading the Word. Now, getting more into reading the Bible has been really exciting for me, and I can see God working that love in me! But it was the times of personal prayer that still scared me.
It's not about you
It's a big transition going from being a husband to being a father. The truth is, I think it is a tougher job being a dad than being a husband. Its a transition that changes you and everything else, mostly because you no longer exist for yourself. Its no longer about you.
Be Seen
Lately I've been pondering the desire of my heart to 'be seen'. In thinking on it I have come to realize that I'm not alone in this desire. It is in fact a natural longing that is in each of us. Throughout our world we find people in every walk of life driven by the desire to be noticed by the world around them. This longing is not wrong.
Year End Traditions
As with many families, for most of the last 20 years, our family's yearly cycle had little to do with the calendar year, but was firmly dictated by the school year. With three of the four people in our home involved in the school system, the end of June was the most anticipated time of the year. One year, early on, we decided to honor the accomplishments of the past year and celebrate the start of two months of vacation (at least for most of us), by going out for a family dinner.

"Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10)

This year has been an absolute whirlwind. I don't think that I'm alone in saying that, so I think it would be appropriate to stop for just a minute and try to catch our breath.

The weeks leading up to Todd's consecration and Canon were so filled with expectation, and those were certainly fulfilled. It was such a joy to experience the richness and weight of God's presence together in worship, teaching, and prayer. For me personally, I knew God's presence and his voice in those few weeks more than I have for many years. It was such a grace.

"Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near." - Isaiah 55:6

Have you ever noticed that Moses could have missed his first encounter with God? The Bible records that it wasn't when Moses saw the burning bush that God met with Him, but it was only after he drew aside to seek out what was going on that God revealed Himself to him...

The gift of tongues is only one of the many spiritual gifts God releases to His children, and this may possibly be a gift the Lord has for you. I encourage you to seek His face in this matter.

Praying in tongues became very real in my life one day, as I was encouraged to pray just one simple prayer that I felt safe to pray - "Lord, if tongues is of You, and if You want me to have tongues, I believe."

I was talking with Dave Stroeve this week, we were marveling at the blessing our church is too us. We have had an action packed week, with the consecration ceremony, celebration and Canon conference, there have been many great words given, works done and vision cast that we can look forward too. We marveled at the body of believers we get to walk with and all the great callings of those around us.
